THE EDITOR, Sir:
On Tuesday, July 10, 2007, I was at the bus terminus which hosts buses coming from other parts of the island to downtown Kingston and I saw a scene which stunned me for a while.
There was this man selling sweets, among other things, who was approached by a girl about 14. She ordered a pack of peanut from him, which the man hesitated to sell her because she was behaving as if she had no intention of paying for it. when she didn't get her way with the man she slapped him in his chest, leaving him in a melancholy mood.
As if this wasn't enough, a woman who was nearby was cursing the man, saying he was trying to form a love affair with the girl, when it was clear as crystal that it was the girl who was trying to seduce the man into paying her attention.
Well, I can see the reasons why so many men are being charged with carnal abuse; it's because the girls are pushing themselves on them.
Here is a quotation from Mohammed Mustafa, "In this society humility is seen as stupidity and meekness is considered as weakness."
