Battle is on for cricket trophy

Waterford Cricket Club and Washington CC are the respective group leaders as the battle for the Milo-sponsored Portmore Metropolitan U-15 Cricket League heats up this morning in four venues in Portmore.

Washington CC, who lead Group A with maximum 12 points, is expected to beat bottom club, Reid's Pen (zero) at the Bridgeport sports ground, while another match in the group pits second-place Portsmouth (eight points) against third-place Ken's Wildflower, at Portsmouth.

Over in group B, leaders Waterford (12 points) battle third-place Hamilton Gardens (12 points) at Hamilton Gardens, while second in the group, Colours International play pointless Cumberland at the Waterford High grounds.

The teams are playing for the Christeen Cummings Cup and all games begin at 11 a.m.

In matches played last week, Waterford beat Colours International by seven wickets at the Hamilton Gardens grounds. Scores: Colours International 116-9, Jermaine Ennis 30, Mickel Francis 3-25, Ashan Plummer 3-23. Waterford 118-3, Nickroy Lindo 45, Jermaine Ennis 3-23.

At Portsmouth, Washington CC defeated Portsmouth by 17 runs. Scores: Washington CC 171 all out. Andre Allwood 53. Portsmouth 154 all out. Skipper Delbert Gayle 37.

In other games, Hamilton Gardens whipped Cumberland by nine wickets, while Ken's Wildflower got a win over Reid's Pen.
