Trial set for alleged rapist

By Michael McLean, STAR Writer

The trial of a 37-year-old man accused of raping a female co-worker at a funeral parlour in St Elizabeth almost a year ago is set for September 10.

The date was rescheduled when the accused, Errol Hue, of Nain district in the parish appeared before Resident Magistrate Evan Brown on Monday where he had his $450,000 bail extended.

The matter was postponed to allow the crown to complete the file and to have a DNA test done for the accused.

Allegations are that on August 24, the complainant who was employed as a secretary at the parlour was alone inside the office sometime in the afternoon, when the accused who was a watchman, pulled her inside a room and sexually assaulted her.

The matter was reported to the police and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged with rape. He was remanded in custody on two previous occasions before he was eventually granted bail.
