A medical doctor was freed of a rape charge in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, after the complainant in the case presented a letter saying she had no futher interest in the matter.
Dr. Paul Robinson was charged with rape. However, when the case came up for mention, attorney-at-law Earl Delisser told the court that an aspect of the case that he thought about had manifested itself.
He then presented a letter to Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar-Gayle, who enquired of the complainant if she had indeed tendered the letter. After being told yes, the R.M. further questioned why the case was being dropped.
She was informed by the complainant that she was getting married shortly and a relative was filing for her.
The court acceded to her request and a no order was made against the doctor.
The case had been before the court since late last year when the complainant reported to the police that she was sexually assaulted by the doctor, who has maintained his innocence throughout his appearances.
In the meanwhile, he will reappear in court on indecent exposure charges on August 21.
