Aleen Bailey wins 100m at Island Games

LONG ISLAND, New York

Olympian Aleen Bailey, Decosma Wright and Davita Prendergast, were among Jamaican winners at yes-terday's Island Games held at Mitchell Field Complex.

Bailey, warming up for the National Championships, raced to an easy victory in the women's 100m in 11.46 seconds.

Holmwood's Schillonie Calvert won the girls event in 11.74.

Lerone Clarke won his 100m heat in 10.67, but had to settle for second overall behind Michael Rodgers ( 10.52).

Clarke said he went into the race with a tight hamstring and the idea was "just to test it"

In the sprint hurdles, Jam-aicans Decosma Wright of Lincoln and Calabar's Weir were winners. Wright, formerly of Bridgeport and G.C. Foster College, took the men's 110m hurdles in 13.74 while Weir took his event in 15.06.

Calabar won the boys sprint relay ahead of Canarsie.

The Calabar quartet of Oshane Bailey, Ramone Mc-Kenzie, Warren Weir and Garfield German stopped the clock in 41.04, to beat Canarsie (42.97).

St. Jago with Yohan Blake made a last-minute withdrawal.

Calabar took one-two in the boys 400m hurdles event. Anthony White (54.17) won ahead of his teammate Rowan Gooden ( 54.32).

In the college/open women's 400m, Jamaica's entries, Andrea Sutherland of Edwin Allen ( 59.28) and Andrea Reid of Holmwood (60.75) were second and sixth respectively.

Alpha's Claudia Calder won the girls high jump with a leap of 1.70 metres. Calder, who failed on all three attempts at 1.75m, beat compatriot Kadeen Isaacs of Manchester High (1.65m).

St. Jago's Shakaye Matthias won the girls long jump with a leap of 4.96m.

In the girl' triple jump, St. Jago's Sahakaye Matthias (10.99m) finished second behind Ayanna Alexander of Trinidad & Tobago (13.20m).
