Two shot dead yesterday

Two men were shot dead in separate incidents in Trelawny and St. Catherine yesterday morning.

Robert Merchant, otherwise called 'Merchie', a 35-year-old taxi operator of Browns Hall, St. Catherine, was killed at his home. Reports are that at about 12:10 a.m., Merchant was at his home when gunmen kicked open his door. The men entered the house and opened fire, hitting him before escaping in a waiting vehicle. The police were called and Merchant was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The St.Catherine North Homicide Unit is investigating.

Over in Trelawny, a man known by the aliases, 'Demar' and 'Bullet' was shot dead by gunmen on Thorpe Street in Falmouth. Reports are that at about 12:45 a.m., residents heard explosions in the area. The police were called and after a search, the body was found under a shop piazza. Police discovered that he had been shot and stabbed a number of times.

The Falmouth CIB is investigating.
