Ameth Robles) getting the better of stable companion MUCHO GUSTO (Charles Hussey) to win Saturday's Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup at Caymanas Park. IL CAIMANO: Bay colt, Royal Minister - Needles Last by Romantic Lead
TRAINER: Anthony Nunes
OWNER: Elias Haloute (Barbados)
BREEDERS: Ham Stables
Won three of seven races, including victory over 1100m on debut (September 30, 2006) before upsetting at 14-1 in May 12 Lotto Classic over 2000 metres.
Worked very well going into April 7 2000 Guineas, but was slowly into stride and finished seventh by seven lengths to RUM TALK. Was held up in the Lotto Classic and came with a devastating late run in the final 200 metres to catch and beat stable companion MUCHO GUSTO, winning by just over a length in 2:09.3. To be ridden by Ameth Robles, IL CAIMANO is only one of two Derby entrants to taste victory going 2000m. Like many of the other Derby contenders, IL CAIMANO has been burning up the exercise track. On Wednesday, May 23 he cantered nine furlongs galloping eight furlongs in an easy 1:47.2 alongside stable companion Alpha Lupa. It is expected that the 2400m Derby distance will prove ideal for the Elias Haloute-owned colt and he will be among the top three when the race is being decided.
