Top ten 'fun' mom things

There are somethings about the joys of motherhood that can only be categorised as uniquely special, I told My Friend P recently. They are not necessarily completely pleasant things - but they are not completely bad things either. They are just things that let you understand that all is well in the world because you are alive, breathing and have some loved ones to share the experience of life with.

So here we have the top 10 list of 'fun' things that happen to moms.

1. You are sleeping [or so you thought] when suddenly you feel something poking you on your closed eyelid. You sneak open your eyes in time to get a real close-up view of you toddler's finger on its return flight to probe that mysteriously closed eye.

2. You are tired as a dog. So you are trying to fall asleep on the sofa while offspring are outside. Suddenly, while you sleep, you feel as if you are being watched - why? Because you are! You open your eyes to see two serious faces staring down at you. They explain they were just watching you to make sure you are all right.

3. You go off to bathe young 'un who is stripped naked. Well, since young 'un is in the nude it is an opportune time to get rid of some excess fluid, only problem is you are holding him/her.

4. You are up to your eyeballs with work at the office and the phone rings, it is your offspring calling for no real reason but to say "Mom, I am home."

5. It is Mother's Day and while some kids have done the major splash of 'other parent' induced expensive gifts you get a hand-made, hand-written love card saying Happy Mother's Day.

6. You are doing a close-up look in the eyes and nose rub with toddler and just when less than one inch separates the faces toddler sneezes. [And no, they don't know a thing about covering the mouth when they sneeze at that age].

7. You have just had a bad thought about your neighbour that you happen to say out loud: "Mrs. H. is so silly...", an outburst in the presence of offspring. You meet Mrs. H. down the road and offspring, without conference shouts, "Mummy just said you are so silly."

8. You think that you have the most pointless and pathetic job in the history of the world. But when asked what they want to be when they grow up your offspring quotes your job.

9. You come home from work and your offspring hollers your given name "mummy", runs towards you, jumps in your arms and delivers a life-threatening hug.

10. The tea was a bit cold and had no sugar, the egg was a bit soft in the centre and the bread was unevenly cut, yet it was the nicest breakfast you have ever had - since it was breakfast in bed from young 'un.

Life is one hell of an event that one ought not to miss the details of, because it comes and goes so swiftly. As we end the month of the child, the same one that houses the day for mothers, take heart in the things, the little inconsequential things that actually speak volumes and make life worth the breaths each day.
