Veronica Campbell - Ian Allen
new york city, new york (cmc):
Olympic gold medallist Veronica Campbell will lead a host of top Jamaican athletes at the 2007 Reebok Grand Prix track meet next weekend in New York.
Organisers of the event, considered one of the leading international track and field meets in the United States, say it will take place at the state-of-the-art Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island on Saturday, June 2.
World 200-metre junior record holder Usain Bolt and Commonwealth Games 100-metre champion Sheri-Ann Brooks will also participate in the third annual event.
Over a dozen other Jamaican track and field stars will take part in the championship, organisers said in a statement here.
Jamaica's top boys' high school 4x400 metre relay teams will also compete against at least two of the top 4x400 metre high school teams in the United States.
Must see event
"The event has now become a 'must-see' event for Jamaicans right alongside the Penn Relays," organisers declared.
Other Jamaican athletes booked for the meet include Commonwealth Games medallists Omar Brown (gold, 200 meters); Novlene Williams (bronze, 400m); and Jermaine Gonzales (bronze, 400m hurdles).
Three of Jamaica's leading high school relay teams, Calabar High, Herbert Morrison and St. Jago High, will participate in the Reebok Grand Prix.
"The relays are sure to be among the most thrilling events of the evening," organisers said.
