$30K fine for fake passport

Tashieka Mair, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU

A Kingston Man who tried to leave the island by way of a fraudulent document was fined $30,000 when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Bobby McBean, 27, pleaded guilty to uttering a forged document, a British passport, before RM winsome Henry.

He was arrested at the Sangster International Airport where he had checked in to board a flight to Kingston, with connections to Barbados.

McBean said that his intention was to go to Canada from Barbados to make a better life for himself. He said he did not pay for the document, as it was his cousin who lives overseas who had sent it to him.

It is alleged that he checked in at the airport on May 8 to board an Air Jamaica flight to Kingston, with connections to Barbados. His documents were examined by Immigration and found to be fraudulent. He subsequently admitted that the documents were forged and asked the officer to give him a chance.

If he does not pay the $30,000 fine, he will spend three months behind bars.
