CHAMPION trainer Wayne DaCosta's PASSA PASSA gets the ideal distance in tomorrow afternoon's 1300 metres Frankie Frazer Memorial Cup after being caught close home at 1500 metres in his last two races.
With the distance reduced and no matching speed in the five-horse Overnight Allowance field, American-bred PASSA PASSA should go all the way from Philip Feanny's local filly, WHITE DIAMOND, who is stepping up in class after beating non-winners-of-four on April 28.
PASSA PASSA comes in light at 52.5 kilos with Dane Nelson and will have to be caught after setting cracking splits of 46.2 and 1:11.4 last time out before being nailed close to the finish by PECKUS OUT and DIAMOND EXPRESS.
Jackpots at $2.4m
Back-to-back outsiders, KING AL at 12-1 and IL CAIMANO at 14-1 in the Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup, had Super-Six and Pick-9 players on the retreat, resulting in carryovers of $910,382 and $1.5 million respectively.
BABY RENEE, who split KERMIT and ROCK STAR QUEEN to register back-to-back wins on April 9, is fancied to close out her hat-trick in the first Pick-9 race, the six-furlong third event.
HEZA RANKING is expected to start favourite after racing prominently off a claim against $260,000 claimers on May 5.
However, Christopher Morrison's BABY RENEE should use her speed to get into the lane ahead of HEZA RANKING, who has been running well over longer distances and might find the pace too hot to follow down the backstretch.
Hat-trick
SIR KISSON LAL should also close out a hat-trick of wins in the fourth event over nine furlongs, again taking on $170,000 claimers and Feanny's I'M D' MAC looks tough to beat at 1500 metres in the fifth where he goes for back-to-back wins.
Mullings should also get Super-6 players off to a good start in the sixth at five furlongs straight aboard SOFTLY MY DEAR and SPLASHIN RIVER has worked too good to be opposed in the seventh, an apprentice race over six furlongs, after clocking 1:17.0 at the distance last Saturday morning.
Close those bets with MR. WICKER in the eighth at 10 furlongs, NYAH MAN drawn perfectly out wide at five furlongs straight in the ninth and so too KING AL in the nightpan.
