A Westmoreland man arrested with more than 40 cellular phones in the trunk of a car he was driving was remanded in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Daraine Safari, of a Savanna-la-Mar address, was remanded on a charge of receiving stolen property for the incident. He was previously wanted by the Savanna-la-Mar police for similar offences.
He is to settle his legal representation before his next court date, scheduled for May 22.
Safari was arrested in Anchovy, St. James, half an hour after the Montego Bay police received reports of a robbery in the that town.
Allegations are that earlier this month, the police were conducting spot checks along the Anchovy main road when Safari was signalled to stop his vehicle. The car was searched, and 43 cellular phones were found in the trunk.
He was unable to give an acceptable explanation for how he came in possession of the phones.
He told the police that someone had sent him to collect the items in Montego Bay.
Further allegations are that he tried to run away from the police, but was held.
