A 22-year-old man charged with unlawful possession of a motor vehicle is facing simple larceny charges after it was revealed to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court that the owner of the vehicle had been located.
Donald Wallace, a landscaper of Bickersteth in St. James, who is also answering additional charges of fraudulent use of a licence disc and licence plate as well as driving without a driver's licence.
He is scheduled to return to court on June 6.
In the meantime, the investigating officer is to collect a statement from the owner of the vehicle. Mr. Wallace had his $90,000 bail extended on Monday.
When the case was first before the court in February, defence attorney George Thomas said his client bought the vehicle in a wrecked state for $400,000, and got it repaired at a garage in Granville.
He said that Wallace has receipts, and relevant proof that he bought the vehicle legitimately.
Mr. Thomas stated that the insurance was still valid on the car, and that was the reason the licence plate was still on the vehicle, as it had not yet been transferred to his client.
Allegations are that the police stopped Wallace along Barnett Street in Montego Bay on February 9, and it was subsequently discovered that the car had been stolen. Mr. Wallace was also unable to present a driver's licence.
