The Government is considering an amendment to the Criminal Justice

Administration Act which in the present state does not give the police jurisdiction to monitor, restrain and restrict criminals deported to Jamaica. The prescribed amendment has been criticised for abusing the constitutional rights of the individuals on the grounds that though guilty of criminal offences in the countries from which they have been deported, they may not have committed any crime here and may not be wanted by the local police.

Then

A controversial amendment to the Criminal Justice Administration was proposed, which allowed cops to control the movement of deportees in the country.

Now

With amendments enacted, Government in 2006 received the results of a study on the impact deportees have on the crime rate.
