A quiet volcano located in the town of Linstead, St. Catherine is waiting to erupt on the island of Jamaica and possibly the world.
This explosion is happening in the form of Astil Unit, a reggae group comprising three young men, Horace 'Kryptonite' Harris, Vinton 'Classical' Pusey and Alrick 'Fab-yo' Griffiths. They are managed by Jeron Francis with Omar Johnson as his assistant.
Little success
Horace explained to The Star that to date they have made some 20 recordings with a few of them getting a fair amount of airplay. They have so far reaped little success.
Currently they are laying tracks for a CD at Tabbath Promotions in Linstead. Tabbath is headed by John Samauels who stated that he has worked with such big names in the industry as Freddy McGreggor and George Nooks.
The group had its genesis through a 'musical clash' at a street dance session. They sing and deejay reggae and dancehall music. They have performed at places like Asylum Nightclub and Hellshire Beach. Recently they entered the TVJ's 'Must Buss' musical competition and came out the winner. Among their recordings are Ghetto and Perpetrator.
The persons they said inspired them in the music business include Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man.
The group's CD, still to be named, will be out in July. They promise heady, conscious reggae and dancehall music.
Astil Unit believes that 2007 is the year they will come to prominence. They said that they are aiming to become another Voicemail.
