A St. James man, who court documents reveal was a regular visitor to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court, pleaded not guilty to robbery with aggravation on Monday.
Shirley Pringle was arrested and charged after he allegedly attacked a female and stole $300, before attempting to steal her
cellular phone.
Pringle told the court that he did not rob the complainant. He contends that he was chopped by the complainant's fiancé earlier that day, and the woman had taken some money to compensate him for the injury but he refused to take it.
RM Henry ordered a subpoena for the complainant so the court could get more clarity on the
matter.
RM Winsome Henry offered Pringle bail in the sum of $50,000, and he is booked to return to court on May 14.
Knife at neck
Allegations are that about 9:15 a.m. on April 9, the complainant was walking along Creek Street in Montego Bay when she felt someone grab on to her neck from behind. It is said that she also felt a knife to her neck.
She turned around and allegedly saw the accused who demanded her cellphone and she dropped it. Further allegations are that he asked for money and she took $300 from her purse, and gave it to the accused, who in turn, returned her phone.
The complainant subsequently made a report at the Barnett Street Police Station, and Pringle was arrested the same day.
Pringle has been to court on previous occasions for offences including robbery, possession of ganja and offensive weapon.
