The alleged lesbians and gays in the McGregor Gully community of Eastern Kingston seem to have taken last week's ultimatum to leave or suffer the consequences quite seriously.
In an article published in THE STAR on April 26 titled 'GAYS MUST LEAVE TODAY', residents spoke of a two-week notice that they had issued to this group to leave their community by that day. The residents declared that they were fed up with seeing the activities of gay persons in their community, especially the women.
Checks made in the community since the 'gay eradication day' revealed that some individuals had fled the community and haven't been seen since. "... Dem affi tek weh demself eno cause dem kno seh a pure mad head deh roun here," one resident told THE STAR.
Residents also pointed out that an area close to an old community centre, which was a 'hang out' spot for the lesbians, has since been abandoned, apart from a few teenagers who stop to chat with each other.
However, while some level of change has taken place residents say that not all the alleged lesbians have fled the community. The persons who have remained are said to be maintaining a 'low profile'.
"Yu si if dem a do dem thing an a do it one away, it bad an nuh too bad eno, but wi cyaa have dem a gwaan like sey dem queer an we mus jus accep it," a resident pointed out, while explaining why these persons were being allowed to stay.
But there was still some warning from other residents. "Not because dem nuh brawlin wid it again nuh mean seh dem can stay, wi jus ago gwaan pree dem still. Wi did done set di orda aready seh dem fi leave, so dem affi leave," one female said.
