Marco here to make his mark

Mad Marco - contributed

By Tanola Jackson, Star Writer

Mark Gordon aka Marco had always been interested in reggae music from a very young age, but due to his Christian background and the fact that his father was a pastor, Marco was required to be in church every Sunday.

He was only allowed to sing gospel music.

"Well music is a inborn thing, I use to sing from bout eight while in church. I then got my first break on a carnival road show and from there on I continued performing on shows," he said.

Marco gained his first exposure as a teenager back in 1989 at a little carnival road show, which took place every Sunday night. The show went on for four years. In 1993 Marco had his first major show, which was Super B's Birth Night Bash where he performed alongside artistes like Bounty Killer, Frisco Kid, Lady Saw and Wickerman.

His first two singles Gaway and Who Dat became more popular in the western side of the island. In 2002 he recorded another single Bashment Lady done by Chris Hines and himself on the One World Music Label.

Marco intends to become a producer one day, as he claims that the love he has for music could not be limited to one thing. It was with this in mind that he moved to Kingston where he met Louise Frazer-Bennett.

"She took me through and around the inner cities of Kingston performing, but she suddenly passed away so I had to take it on all on my own," Marco said.

He then got the opportunity to record another single called Picture on the Next Generation Label. Marco began getting more popular in the streets, which led him to meet Goofy, "And being around him I decided to learn about producing."

Marco said, "That is where it started and I now have my own label and rhythm called 'The Run Away." Marco says he hopes to someday make it to the top as he says, "It will be possible if I have the right management team to guide my career."
