Emcee Nuffy is begging for sponsorship to stage the annual Portmore Awards. Nuffy contacted the Star describing the difficulties he has experienced in staging this year's event.

Scheduled for June 22 at the Caymanas Park infield, this is Nuffy's ninth year in putting on the Portmore Awards, which he and a few friends started years ago. According to Nuffy every year the money comes from his pocket, or from donations by entertainers and other donors. This year he has written to countless organisations and has not got any responses.

This is not the first year that the awards has sought sponsors. Nuffy says that each year he has problems finding a sponsor, and as such the show has never been sponsored by a corporate organisation. "This year mi waan go more high tech, tek di show to another level but when mi call the corporate sponsors dem seh is too much we asking for," Nuffy said.

According to Nuffy the Portmore Awards is important to the people of Portmore as it gives recognition to Portmore natives such as Vybz Kartel, Macka Diamond and Spice, as well as others. "We honour nurses, police, entertainers who never get honour. Mi honour Professor Nuts in 2005 and him seh to me he never thought him woulda get recognition. This year mi waan honour Marcia Griffiths as one of the pioneer ladies, but if mi nuh get no sponsor I don't think dat can happen," Nuffy said.

This year's awards is titled 'Walk Out', the black and white edition. Booked for the ceremony so far is Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, D'Angel, Wayne Wonder, Freddie McGregor and countless other known and unknown artistes. Some of the show's proceeds will be donated to the Gregory Park All Age School and the Portmore Stars Women's Football Team.

Nuffy pleads, "this is the place whey show people up so dem can go on to better things. Mi already get some sponsors but right now any corporate sponsors out there we looking forward to unnu, whatever yuh want, Yuh can contact me at 384-8545."
