The first semi-final matchup between Sri Lanka and New Zealand last Tuesday at Sabina Park might not have been all that spectators had anticipated it would be, as New Zealand barely put up much of a fight.
However, spectators were kept well entertained for the most part by the different drum corps, as they strummed up and maintained the vibes.
When The Star interviewed trumpeter Omeal Christy, a member of the St. Jude's Marching Band, he said although they had their songs set out, the crowd support added to their vibes.
A young boy adds to the support for the cricketers at the Sri Lanka versus New Zealand in semi-finals 1 of the Cricket World Cup 2007 at Sabina Park.
"The Sri Lankan dem, they were magnificent and all di English, they were supporting us all the way," he said.
The St. Judes Marching Band were obvious supporters of the Sri Lanka team, as Omeal said, "they even gave us a song the day before to play, it was a Sri Lanka song, but I don't quite remember the name."
A few English supporters who came out to enjoy the match, were also impressed with the vibes that the drum corps brought.
"The band was amazing, they had all of Sri Lanka singing and wining," James from London, England said, adding, "we don't have bands like these in England."
Other entertaining activities also came at the end of the Sri Lanka Innings when 'The Scotia Bank Kiddies Cricketers' took the field clad in red hats and T-shirts with white pants. The 40 youngsters subdivided themselves and presented four different miniature matches, all being played simultaneously.
They were later joined by the 'CWC Vibes Team' (responsible for hospitality at Cricket World Cup 2007) led by the official Cricket World Cup Mascot, 'Mello'. As the volunteers paraded around the Sabina Park field, Mello led the vibes as he danced the 'Crazy Hype' and 'Willy Bounce' to the official Cricket World Cup song, 'It's A Beautiful Game' sang by Shaggy, Rupee and others.
