Cumberland, Police face off

By Anthony Minott, Freelance Writer

Zone One winners Cumberland Football Club meet Zone Two runners-up Police FC in a Candon-Enterprise St. Catherine Division One Football League first-leg semi-final at the Spanish Town Prison Oval today. Kick off time is 4 p.m.

Cumberland, who topped their zone on goal difference over Travellers FC, faltered in the semi-final stage last year, and were knocked out 2-1 by now Major League outfit, Tru Juice, and will want to go one better this time around.

On the other hand, Police finished second in Zone Two on goal difference to Flamingo FC, and can create some problems for the Cumberland team if left to play.

Meanwhile, in the feature match of the scheduled double-header at Prison Oval, D.B. Basovak and Portmore-based Independence City clash in a first-leg semi-final Juciful-sponsored Major League match at 6 p.m.

D.B. Basovak has lit up the competition this year and topped Zone One on 35 points ahead of Tru-Juice, a mid-season finalist, while Independence City advanced to the semis after winning their last match of the preliminaries 2-0 over Waterloo FC.

The second leg is scheduled for next week Thursday.
