Get lost!

Dear Pastor,

I got married to a man in Jamaica five years ago and we have been separated for three years now. I am trying to obtain a divorce but I do not have any documentation of my marriage nor can I find my husband.

I am living in Canada now and would like to know who I can contact about getting my divorce. Thank you for your help.

S. R., Ontario, Canada

Dear S. R.,

Are you trying to say that you do not have your marriage certificate? I hope you remember your husband's name. I say that because you sound hopeless. You would be surprised that some couples don't even remember the date of their marriage. If you know the date of your marriage and who was the marriage officer, you should apply to the Registrar General Department, Twickenham Park, Spanish Town, Jamaica, for certified copies of your marriage certificate. I further suggest that you call them and ask the cost, etc. The numbers are 867-749-6369 or 876-749-6458.

After you have received certified copies of the marriage certificate, you should contact a lawyer about the divorce.
