Harbour View are on the verge of winning this season's National Premier League title but following tomorrow's round of games the competition will still be on in earnest for second-place.
With a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup at stake, second-place Portmore United (54), third-place Reno (52) and Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens, on 45 points each, will still have something to play for.
Harbour View, on 64 points, play Naggo Head at Ferdie Neita Park at 3:30 p.m. and barring a surprise loss, they will claim their second title. Their first was in 2000.
A loss to Naggo Head is almost inconceivable as the St. Catherine side has so far managed only 17 points from its 29 games and has a record of four wins, five draws and 20 losses.
Their relegation to the South Central Confederation was confirmed on Sunday following their 2-0 loss to Village United. However, none of this will affect Harbour View's approach to the game.
"We are taking the game seriously and we want to win all our remaining games," said coach Lenworth Hyde.
Harbour View, who earlier won the Jackie Bell title this season, have been consistent through each round finishing in the top two of the first two rounds and are second behind August Town in this round.
Reasons for success
Two of the main reasons for their success have been the strike pair of Kavin Bryan and Fabian Taylor. They are joint leading goal scorers along with Reno's Ricardo Scott with 12 goals each and their coach believes there will be a friendly competition between the two to see who will get the golden boot award.
Hyde said if they should go on to win the title it would be particularly special for two of his most senior players.
"Donald Stewart and Fabian Taylor they are really stepping up. They want it more than anything in the world and they are showing it," said Hyde.
Portmore United must still be kicking themselves as they pose less of a threat now following two successive draws. They face the soon-to-be-dethroned champions Waterhouse at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium. Portmore should be wary as Waterhouse are due a win, going 10 games since their last victory.
The surprise team of the third round, August Town, host Tivoli Gardens at the Barbican playing field. August Town are on an impressive streak of six wins from seven games and have been the most dangerous team in this round.
Since distancing themselves from the relegation zone, they have climbed to sixth place, five points behind Tivoli Gardens.
Reno, who have cooled down significantly in the third round with only two wins from their seven games, travel to Catherine Hall to play a struggling Seba United with a likely three points on offer.
