Gunman killed, firearm recovered

One of a group of gunmen who reportedly fired at the members of a police party was fatally shot and a firearm seized at Wellington Road, Kingston 13, on Wednesday morning.

The dead man, who is still unidentified, is of dark complexion, slim built, about 150 cm tall and was wearing a blue jeans.

Police reports are that at 8 a.m., an operation was carried out in the Kingston 13 area. During the exercise, gunmen fired at the members of the police party on Wellington Road.

The gunfire was returned, hitting one of the men while the others escaped. A Remington shotgun, with four 12-gauge cartridges was taken from the injured man. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced a probe into the incident.
