A man walks past one of the manholes in the sidewalk on the west side of St. William Grant Park in downtown Kingston. - Norman Grindley
As a part of our mission to be the people paper, THE STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. Now we will have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
This marks one month since we have been focusing on the open manholes outside the St. William Grant Park in downtown Kingston.
The latest from Stephen Shaw, communications and customer service manager of the National Works Agency, is that the matter is being investigated.
Meanwhile, the open manholes on the sidewalk outside the park not only pose a danger to pedestrians, but are also unsightly. We hope that these will be fixed quickly and the rehabilitation of the park being undertaken by the Urban Development Corporation will commence soon.
... And the traffic light?
Ten months! The traffic light at the intersection of Industrial Terrace and Spanish Town Road has been out for more than 10 months. Wow! Will it ever be fixed?
