Attired in his brand new red and white driver's suit, the lanky Peter Rae looked confident as he stood in the mid-morning sun beside his remodelled Mazda RX7, which he will be using to represent Jamaica at Monday's regional motor racing championship, scheduled for the Dover Raceway, St. Ann.

Last October, Rae and his car were no match for the Guyanese, who stamped their authority at the regional meet to dethrone Jamaica.

"At the meet held in Guyana last October, I crashed out of the championship during the fifth lap of the first event," said Rae. But this year his New York Brake/Auto Don Trading car is more powerful and ready for the opposition.

The vehicle was unveiled yesterday morning at its Keesing Avenue-base in Kingston where sponsors and officials of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club spoke to journalists about the upcoming race meet.

Rae, Peter 'Bull' Thompson, David Summerbell and Marck Creary are among the top drivers who will be taking the challenge to the Guyanese team who arrived in the island yesterday afternoon.

The two-day meet commences on Sunday with the qualifying sessions, followed by the championship events on Easter Monday.

Rae's new-look, reconditioned Mazda RX7 has been sprayed over from black into a spanking eye-catching red. The gear box has also been re-built and new shock absorbers have been installed and special work has been done in the fuel department.

His new sponsor, New York Brake, an American-based company which entered the Jamaica market in the past two years, announced its long-term commitment to the sponsorship and to providing quality brake pads and shoes to the Jamaican market, with a view that it will help reduce the spate of motor vehicle accidents in the island.
