Street meets studio with final ten

The final 10 have been chosen and the competition gets 'dread' as street meets studio.

The top 10 finalists in the 2007 MiPhone Dancin' Dynamites competition are Rock Stars, Crazy Hype, Kimbe, Target Dancers, Venum Squad, Kayatic Vibes, Young Blood, HJ Dancers, Attitude Brothers and Blazin Vybz. The chosen few will compete for more than a million dollars in cash and prizes plus an appearance in an Assassin music video. S Squad and Flava Squad did not get lucky.

The remaining groups were forced to step up their game as this week the music was all mixed up and remixed. Each group got two minutes to perform to a remix track with different genres. As if that was not enough to deal with, the dancers had to face 'Judge Dread', Craigie Dread that is. And he lived up to his name, especially when he performed limbo at the end of the show, a dance he created. He came highly recommended having worked with Voicemail, Wayne Wonder, T.O.K. and Elephant Man.

Attitude Brothers faced the first experiment. They got reggae and hip hop. While they were entertaining as they performed to Redemption Song, the judges agreed that the comedy in their set worked but that the choreography was weak. They earned 18 points.

'Locked Up'

Crazy Hype followed with 18 points, five of which were from Craigie Dread. The hip hop in their set came from Akon's Locked Up which they represented onstage with actual handcuffs, but this did not work for them as they had trouble putting it on which affected their rhythm.

But as the night progressed, it seemed the dancers managed to master the feat, or cope as best as they could.

Kimbe's mix included hip hop, soca and dancehall which their costumes rightly represented. Half of their costumes was for carnival, in bright colours while the other was white shirts with black pants for the other genres. The audience loved both the costumes and presentation as they howled and cheered at the end of the performance.

Judge Dread, however, was not moved. After receiving full marks from both Neila Ebanks and Orville Hall, Craigie Dread awarded them six points after commenting on their costumes. The audience was not enthused. Venum Squad also scored 26, though the judges thought they started off 'messy'.

Another big scorer was Kayatic Vibes who got past with 25 points. Their mix was mostly dancehall with some hip hop. Moving to Macka Diamond's Done Already, the group was energetic and entertaining as they had the audience laughing and moving. Ebanks gave them nine points, which was seconded by Craigie Dread, but Hall thought their technique was lacking.
