Guard on stabbing charge stays in jail

By Tashieka Mair, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU

A security guard accused of stabbing a patron at a nightclub where he worked, causing the victim's intestines to protrude, will remain behind bars until April 10.

When Nigel Wallace appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, RM Winsome Henry said she was not in a position to grant bail as she needed more information on the matter.

Wallace, 33, of Norwood, St. James, was charged with wounding with intent. The complainant, who was wounded in the abdomen and chest, is still in hospital.

Allegations say about at 4 a.m on March 17, the complainant was at a club in Anchovy, where he was involved in a fight with Wallace. A witness alleges that the accused left the club and went to a car where he retrieved an object before going back inside.

Wallace allegedly approached the complainant and stabbed him. The man ran and was chased by the accused who stabbed him again.

It is said that the witness subsequently found the complainant suffering from wounds to the abdomen and intestines protruding.

Defence attorney Dalton Reid, in his bail application, said the accused was trying to make peace during a fight that was taking place between persons at the club.

He said that the so-called witness, who was banned from the club for a past misconduct, is a cousin of the complainant.
