Three on conspiracy charge offered bail

by Tashieka Mair, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

Three room-mates charged with conspiracy to defraud after a list containing names, addresses and telephone numbers for United States citizens was found at their Bogue Village home in Montego Bay, were offered bail on Wednesday.

They are Tanya Brown, a 28-year-old customer service representative; Craig Franklin, 28, chef, and 20-year-old student, Diandra Desharm.

The three, who are answering conspiracy to defraud charges, were granted bail in the sum of $250,000 in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court. They were also instructed to surrender all travel documents., and a stop order was also imposed against them at all ports of exit.

Brown and Franklin are to report to the Montego Bay Freeport Police Station on Tuesdays, while Desharm will report to the Constant Spring Police Station.

The trio's house was searched on March 11 after it is alleged that gunmen engaged a police party in a shoot-out from that premises.

It is said that a list with the contact information was found at the dwelling. Brown allegedly said a friend gave it to her, while her two co-accused, who were not at home at the time, denied knowledge of the document.

Desharm's attorney, Roy Fairclough, said her mother reportedly turned her over to the police after the Bogue Village premises was raided.

He said his client is attending school in Kingston and was only at the premises for the weekend. Mr. Fairclough also argued that the prosecution would have a hard time proving that there was any conspiracy among the three to defraud anyone.

George Duncan, who represents the other two accused, told the court that several other persons were in the house prior to the police's visit. He said his client was called away from work after the alleged gun battle occurred.

The investigating officer who was present confirmed that the police did call Franklin to the house after the incident.
