Two of the men charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, after they were caught by narcotics police in St Elizabeth last Thursday, were denied bail when they appeared in the Santa Cruz RM Court.
Gustavus 'Cappo' Keith Huslin, 63, of Port Antonio, Portland, and Lindell Wilson, 32, taxi driver of Rowlandsfield District, St Thomas, were denied bail by RM Stanley Clarke.
They are charged separately for possession, dealing and trafficking ganja.
Huslin is charged for possession of over 641 pounds of ganja while Wilson is charged with 371 pounds of the weed.
They were the drivers of two vehicles transporting the drug.
It is reported that about 8 p.m. on Thursday night, police from the Santa Cruz division, along with Area 3 narcotics squad, were on an operation in the Santa Cruz area, which took them to 'Top Burnt Ground'.
They saw two vehicles which they signalled to stopped. The men inside allegedly alighted and opened fire at the police. The fire was returned and the men reportedly ran into the nearby bushes where they were later held by the police.
The vehicles, a white minibus driven by Huslin and a blue Nissan station wagon driven by Wilson, were found to contain over 50 parcels of ganja.
Both men are scheduled to return to the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on March 26.
