No 'Evil' here

Craig 'Leftside' Parkes sometimes slips into the 'Dr. Evil' character. - Winston Sill

By Kavelle Anglin-Christie, Staff Reporter

Is there a fake 'Dr. Evil' on myspace.com?

Actually, there are many who have named themselves after the Austin Powers movie character, but there is only one pretending to be the dancehall artiste, Leftside's alter ego, 'Dr. Evil'.

On 'Dr. Evil's' web page, his picture is there and so are 'his' songs More Punany, No STD, Shake It. It also stated that his location was Jamaica.

Leftside, of the duo, Leftside and Esco, says he was not aware of the bogus 'Dr. Evil'.

"Bwoy, me nuh know. The fact that he is saying he is 'Dr. Evil' and putting up my songs is a different thing. Anybody can say that they are Dr. Evil because I got that name from the movie and that's why I even changed my name to 'Mr. Evil'," he said.

More popular page

Though Leftside and Esco have their own myspace page, 'Dr. Evil's' page is far more popular; he has much more 'friends', more views, more comments and fans just love 'his' music.

A 'Jennifer', wrote: "Hey, wats up? Thanx 4 the add ... You are such a wicked m.c ... I love your music, the beats and flow is amazing and some of your lyrics are so funny, there classic ..."

On March 17 of this year, a male wrote: "What up my dude? I love your songs. Those songs are funny as heck. you got skill. I believe that you're right up there with the greats. You got some dope stuff. Much love bro. Do your thing keep that s—t hot."

Another wrote: "Thanks for the add!!!! - Your music is refreshingly creative ... Plz keep it coming!!!"

In fact, it seems people love 'Dr. Evil' so much, he is number 29 on the myspace.com reggae chart and Leftside and Esco are nowhere to be seen.

Though Leftside is irked that there was someone impersonating him, he still loves the fact that those abroad know and love the duo's songs, though they may not know them.

"Well yeah, it feels good, but I don't know how far him planning to take it. Suppose he can sound like the character. But it's good to see how much people rate it. That person is just desperate for attention," he said.

Leftside spoke of the duo's plans to make themselves more known to foreigners. "We plan to make more music videos and to out them on stations like Tempo and that sort of thing. But regarding this guy, I guess me and my manager going to have to sort it out. Me nuh really know wha fi say; that kinda weird."

THE STAR was unable to get a comment from 'Dr. Evil' up to press time.
