TIVOLI Gardens lost 0-1 at home yesterday but still booted Premier League leaders Harbour View out of the Red Stripe Champions' Cup quarter-finals 3-1 on aggregate.
Captain Lovel Palmer fired in a goalmouth rebound in the 50th minute for Harbour View, who ran at their rivals for the remainder of the half but had given themselves too much to do after losing 0-3 at home last Wednesday.
Tivoli, who endured a nervous second-half, join Portmore United as the first teams to qualify for the semi-finals of the national knockout tournament.
Former national striker Onandi Lowe fired in a hat-trick at Catherine Hall as Portmore clobbered Wadadah 4-0 to advance 5-1 on aggregate after playing to a 1-1 draw at Ferdie Neita Park last week.
Lowe opened the scoring in the 27th minute before converting a free-kick on the stroke of half-time and returned to complete the rout in the 75th minute after Mario Swaby made it 3-0 in the 48th.
Tivoli and Portmore now await the winners of today's second round ties. Waterhouse will travel to Boys' Town 0-2 down whereas Village United are at home, but have a huge 4-0 deficit to make up against August Town.
Tivoli's coach, Calvert Fitzgerald, said he wasn't perturbed when Harbour View came out to dominate most of the second half.
"I think they laid back a bit in the second half," he said of his team. "They felt Harbour View couldn't have scored two more goals," he added.
"We came today to defend the three goals and we did it successfully. We have a league game against Harbour View on Sunday and we didn't want to push it too much," Fitzgerald explained.
Tivoli are on 34 points in the league, 16 behind Harbour View, who enjoy a five-point lead over Reno.
However, Fitzgerald remains hopeful.
"There are 30 points out there to get," he said. "We'll just have to try and see how many we can gather," he added.
