Footballer's rape case adjourned

Former national goalkeeper and Seba United football player, Devon 'Kid Harris' Dunkley, who was facing rape charges, had the matter against him adjourned sine die on Tuesday.

Resident Magistrate Carolin Tie made the ruling after the court was informed that the complainant was absent for the start of the preliminary enquiry.

The investigating officer also told the judge that the woman has expressed disinterest in pursuing the matter against 46-year-old Dunkley.

'Kid Harris', who resides at Love Lane in Montego Bay, St. James, was charged in August 2006, after a 23-year-old woman made accusations that he sexually assaulted her at his home while she was there discussing how he would help her to get a job.

Attorney-at-law George Thomas represented the accused.

Allegations are that on June 9, 2006, the complainant saw 'Kid Harris' at the transportation centre and told him that she had lost her job. It is said that he offered to help her get back the job.

The court learnt that the complainant visited him at his house two days later and while they were in a room she was sexually assaulted.

Dunkley was arrested on August 24 and was subsequently pointed out in an identification parade two weeks later.
