Three men, accused of fraudulently obtaining steel valuing more than $1 million from Tankweld Metals, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The men, Christopher Campbell, Leroy White and Verol Forbes, are all charged with obtaining goods by false pretence, obtaining goods by forged documents, uttering forged documents, forgery and conspiracy to defraud.
The allegations are that on February 7, at about 1:00 p.m., Campbell reportedly went to the offices of Tankweld Metals on Seaward Drive, and presented a purchase order which claimed that he was an employee of Phil's Construction Company. The order was processed and steel valuing approximately $1.7 million was delivered to him.
Campbell and the other men were held at a premises on Spanish Road near Riverton City with the trailer and the steel. Campbell was also reportedly held with the gate receipt from Tankweld.
When they appeared in court, the men all pleaded not guilty to the charges. White and Campbell were remanded in custody and Forbes was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with one or two sureties. He was ordered to surrender his travel documents and a stop order was also issued.
The men are to return to court on March 26, when the matter will again be mentioned.
