Police crack car-stealing ring

by Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

spanish town, st. catherine

The GuanaBoa Vale police in St. Catherine cracked a major motor vehicle stealing ring earlier this week when they recovered car parts and motor vehicles valued about $10 million.

The police said one man was arrested during the raid which was conducted in the Kingsland area between March 5 and 6. He has since been charged with unlawful possession of property stemming from the incident.

According to Detective Corporal Kirk Roach, the police acting on information, went to a welding shop in the area. Upon their arrival, they reportedly saw Damian Fisher otherwise called 'Kevin', a welder of Chapel Top, in Kitson Town running from the area. He was held and after investigation charged.

vehicles and parts

According to the detective, the type of vehicles and parts found at the scene were Toyota Prados, Nissans, Hiace buses, Toyota Corollas and other luxury vehicles. He said transmissions, front-end parts, windscreens and engines were also seized. The police reportedly took two days to remove the stolen items.

The police said Fisher is also attending the May Pen RM. Court on similar charges and they believe that this operation has dented the operations of several criminals.

Fisher appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate Court on March 7 and was remanded in custody until March 20, when the case will again be mentioned.

Meanwhile, the police is asking persons who have been victims of car thieves to check with the Spanish Town police at 984-2874.

The police said a similar find was made in the Spring Vale area of St. Catherine in December of last year. That matter is still being investigated.
