A man was arrested and charged with the murder of his cousin in Shortwood District, Cambridge, St. James, on Tuesday night.
Dead is 28-year-old Stanley Barrett, and arrested and charged with murder is Terry Graham, 24, both of Shortwood district.
According to the police, at about 10:10 p.m., Barrett and Graham were home when a dispute developed between them. During the altercation, a machete was used to chop Barrett several times. He ran but subsequently collapsed and died in a nearby churchyard. The police were summoned and the body removed to morgue for post-mortem examination. Graham later handed himself over to the police. The Cambridge police are investigating.
Thirty-two persons, including Barrett, have been murdered in St. James since 2007. Last year, a total of 178 murders were reported in the western parish.
Meanwhile, the St. Andrew Central police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the bodies of two men in a car on Sundown Crescent, Kingston 10, yesterday.
Police reports are that at 12:20 a.m. residents saw a Nissan motor car, registered 2868EU, parked on Sundown Crescent and summoned the police. On arrival of the officers, the bodies of the two men were found in the trunk of the car. Close inspection of the bodies revealed a number of gunshot wounds. The bodies were removed to the morgue for post-mortem examination.
The dead men, who are unidentified, are believed to be in the late 20s, of dark complexion and stout build. One is about 190 cm tall and was clad in grey shirt, blue jeans pants and a pair of black boots, while the other is about 187 cm. tall and was clad in a yellow shirt, blue jeans pants and a pair of brown Timberland shoes.
