Ardenne High and St. George's College will renew their battle for the ISSA/KFC Schoolboy Basketball Under-16 crown when the deciding game of their best-of-three series tips off at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow at the National Stadium courts.
With their hopes set on a return to the glory days which saw them dominate schoolboy basketball in the 1990s, it was Ardenne who dug out a narrow victory in game one. However, determined to carry the trophy back to North Street, St. George's fought fiercely to level the series at 1-1, setting up tomorrow's do-or-die encounter.
Game three has all the makings of another classic battle between the teams as the previous two games have been close and aggressively contested. In fact, just a combined total of four points (Ardenne won game one by one point and St. George's won game two by three points) has turned out to be the difference between the teams in first two games.
The teams are almost evenly matched in all aspects, however, a key match up will be in the paint where the two big men, Ardenne's Alex Lubsy, and Daniel Pitter of St. George's, will each look to control the backboards and the game. Lubsy has had a slight advantage so far, but Pitter has defiantly had his say. The centre which dominates the key tomorrow could well be the key to handing his team the victory.
