Sane enough to face murder charges

By Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

St. Catherine

The court has now gotten the green light to prosecute Christopher Oliver, the man who is charged with the murder of this mother and two brothers at their home in Spanish Town last year.

Myrtle Oliver 45, and brothers Omar, 14; and Omeil Oliver 16, were allegedly killed with a sledge hammer and a knife during a dispute with the accused.

A psychiatric report was read out in the Spanish Town RM. Court on Tuesday stating that Oliver, who was remanded for psychiatric evaluation, is fit to plead. The Resident Magistrate in reading the document said that aside from the continued amnesia of the incident that unfolded, the 23-year-old man suffered no psychosis.

When the case was called for mention, RM. Lorna Errar Gayle asked a family member if a lawyer had been retained for the accused and was told yes.

Attacked family

His appearance in court came as a result of an attack at the family house in Spanish Town in October, where he reportedly went to the house and attacked his brothers. It is alleged that when the mother intervened, she too felt his wrath with the sledge hammer and knife.

All three later died from injuries received during the attack. He was caught by the police the following morning in Hampton Green, Spanish Town.
