Number-one ranked Glenmuir High and defending champions Campion College are through to the finals of the 2006/2007 RBTT National Schools Chess Championships, scheduled to take place this Saturday, at the RBTT head office in New Kingston, starting at 11:00 a.m.

In semi-final play on Saturday, the much-anticipated clash between Glenmuir and Camperdown turned into a rout as the previously-unbeaten Camperdown lost on all four boards. Winning for Glenmuir were Walter Williams, Lucien Rowe, Onaje LaMont and Mikhail Gilespie.

In the other semi-final, Queen's and defending champions Campion College played to a 2-2 score line at the end of regulation play. In the lightning chess, best-of-6 tiebreak match that ensued, Campion's Phillip Pryce defeated Annesha Smith 3.5-0.5 to propel Campion into the finals.

Glenmuir will be seeking their second hold on the national title, while Campion will be hoping to secure their seventh lien. The teams have never met each other in competitive play, and it is expected that the final will begin a new and friendly rivalry between the two schools over the chessboard.
