Wadadah FC joined parish neighbours Seba United in the next round of the 2007 All-Island Red Stripe Champions Cup yesterday afternoon when goals by Markino Gillings and Orville Campbell gave them a 2-0 win over Bodles at the Catherine Hall Stadium.
The Wadadah team, which was winning their first game under new coach Allan Aarons, who replaced Anthony 'Follies' Wil-liams a week ago, took the two-way tie 2-0 on aggregate as last Thursday first leg game at the Spanish Town Prison Oval ended 0-0.
"The goals we scored in this game made the difference as we dominated the first leg game but had failed to score," said Aarons, a former national player. "Hopefully we can now move on in this competition and possibly go all the way."
The game started out quite scrappy with both teams taking some time to settle down. The first scoring opportunity went to Wadadah in the 15th minute when skipper Daniel Rickettes found himself with space before the goal but hesitated and then had his shot blocked by an alert defender.
With Wadadah settling down and looking the better team, they took the lead in the 30th minute. Midfielder Rohan Reid clipped a neat pass to Gillings, who nodded around the advancing goalkeeper and into the unprotected goal, making the score 1-0.
Wadadah should have added a second goal in the 35th minute when Rickettes on a smart break through the middle cracked a powerful grounder, which seemed destined for the goal before it was parried wide by the diving goalkeeper Jeffrey Soares. The half ended with the score unchanged.
Inside a minute of the start of the second half, Bodles missed the easiest of chances to draw level. Sheldon Campbell capi-talised on a defensive blunder but kicked and missed with the empty goal before him.
Two minutes later, Wadadah doubled their lead when another superb pass by Reid found Campbell well placed on the edge of the penalty area. He controlled the ball neatly, dribbled two paces and fired home easily.
In the latter stages of the game, Bodles got a number of chances to pull themselves back into the game but wasted the oppor-tunities. One glaring miss in the 80th minute saw three players failing to get the ball across the goal-line with the Wadadah defence in disarray.
