A labourer of Innswood district, St. Catherine, is now before the court after he was accused of stealing a carton box of cigarettes.
Horace Heslop, 28, pleaded not guilty to robbery when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Investigating officer, Cpl. Craig Walker of the Spanish Town CIB, told Senior Resident Magistrate Lorna Gayle that on January 28, at about 7 a.m., he was on patrol, when on reaching 58 Old Harbour Road he saw a man bleeding from his head. The man told him that he was robbed by a man who hit his head on a wall in his house and ran away with the cigarettes.
Caught with box
The officer said that he
proceeded to Federal Road near to the Sydenham area, where it is alleged that he spotted Heslop with the box containing the cigarettes. When the accused was accosted, he is reported to have said that he was taking the things back to its owner.
The accused was taken to the police station where the complainant pointed him out and he was charged.
On Tuesday, before remanding the accused until March 5 when the case will again be mentioned, RM Gayle told the police that they should have held an identification parade.
