From 'Shack' to a Monster Empire

Teino Evans, Staff Reporter

It seems that the 'Shack' built by Ghost, Round Head and General B in 1995 has now become too small for the big vision they have for their careers.

Now, as the trio seeks to make a comeback to the forefront of dancehall, they have renamed themselves the Monster Empire.

General B says it's the growth and longevity of their careers that have triggered the idea behind the name change.

"Because yuh know a from a shack to an empire, cause wi ting a get bigga. it jus come in like di work weh wi a put in a wi career all these years an wi a come back at it hard. suh a couldn't nuh more shack, wi did haffi seh empire," General B explained.

What's New

And, in addition to the established trio, there are a few new faces that the 'Empire' will be promoting.

General B says: "Monster Empire consists of a whole lot a artistes from day one, but a jus di three a wi (Ghost, Round Head and General B) established. wi still a work pon di yout dem ... Mega Plow, Snaky Trouble and Oxygen."

Ghost says: "the public can also look out for a new member of the team called East Coast, who now has a song called It's All Over, anhim video all a show pon BET."

Producing

So far, Ghost says Monster Empire has been working on new material, some of which has already been released.

"Wi have songs out like High Grade Party wid me an Round Head, Hot Girl Party wid me an General B an I Smoke wid di three of us. An wi have bout five other singles coming out wid di three of us. so there is a lot going on for Monster Empire and also for Ghost, because wi have wi single career going same way," Ghost said.

Some of the producers with whom they have been working include the likes of Scatta, Sly and Robbie and Caspa.

Outside of working with those and other producers, Round Head says this time around, it is more about Monster Empire producing most of their own material, and the public can look out for much more than just music.

"A jus more dan wah dem bargain for because is a while wi off di scene. Mi waan even work pon all di label to an jus start produce some more song, yuh know, kinda add sum'n dan jus voice here an there: wi waan all start produce wi own ting to," Round Head says.

He also added: "More stage show an all a dem ting deh to, cause wi still a tour certain way to an deal wid wi personal life. suh right now, wi deh back inna di ting, official. Right now, some whole heap a work, cause a jus we, our production, clothes line an di whole a dem ting deh wi a meditate pon. A di same 'Emp Ire', di clothing line a guh name, Emp a like di higher grade a weed, but every ting a guh under di same Monster Empire meditation."

What will remain constant, however, is the fact that Ghost, Round Head and General B will still continue to pursue their individual careers, as General B says what happened before was that, "yuh have some man (promoters) weh nuh have di money fi get di entire Monster Shack Crew, or dem jus want one a wi, suh dem jus book me or Ghost or Round Head alone. but wi still a crew an every man free fi to do wah dem waan do same way."
