A senior citizen wept openly yesterday in court after he was sentenced to serve 30 days at hard labour for smoking ganja.
The man, Samuel Thomas, 70, of White Marl, St. Catherine, pleaded guilty to possession of and dealing in ganja and also smoking the illegal substance.
For possession he was fined $400 or 10 days, for dealing $800 or 60 days. he was sentenced to prison for smoking ganja.
While being questioned, the accused later told the resident magistrate that it wasn't the first time he had appeared in court for such charges.
After handing down the sentence, the R.M. said: "This is not the first time you come here for smoking ganja and you do not seem to be learning anything from it."
