Cops kill would-be robber

A man who attempted to rob a businessman was shot dead during a confrontation with the police in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, on Monday.

A firearm was taken from the alleged gunman who has been identified as Sherrington Grant, 26, of Donmair avenue, Kingston 8.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) liaison officer for St. Ann at 7:45 a.m., Grant armed with a gun went into a business establishment in Runaway Bay and demanded cash from the proprietor. When his demand was not met, he opened fire hitting the businessman Policemen, who were close by, heard the shots and rushed to the location. They arrived, Grant fired at the cops who returned the fire, hitting Grant.

A .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with serial number K884879 with three rounds were taken from Grant.

The injured men were taken to hospital where Grant was pronounced dead and the businessman admitted in serious condition.

The Bureau of Special Investi-gation have launched an inquiry into the incident.
