Former caretaker remanded

Former People's National Party caretaker for North West, St. Elizabeth, Lloyd Myrie, was remanded in custody yesterday when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on carnal abuse charges.

Myrie is charged for molesting a 15-year-old child in 2005 and 2006.

Allegations are that the child was brought before the Family Court for uncontrollable behaviour in January. It is alleged that the child told the court that she was molested while living with the accused. The child was taken to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) where she was interviewed. She was then taken to hospital. It is reported that the police went to the premises searching for Myrie, but did not find him. He reportedly turned himself over to police and was charged.

When the matter came before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey yesterday, the accused was remanded in custody until Friday when the case will again be mentioned.
