Since last Friday's Spectrum stage show, held at the University of the West Indies (Mona) Students' Union, two of the controversial acts, Aidonia and selector, DJ Sunshine, want to clarify what in their estimation, caused the drastic reactions of some patrons during their set on stage.
According to Aidonia's Road Manager, Kurk Roberts, the artiste wants to set the record straight as to what really went down, after a bottle was thrown at him during his performance.
"First thing and foremost, wi want to apologise to anybody weh tek di statement (made by Aidonia after a bottle was thrown at him) wrong. It was made out to a specific individual who got paid, to throw a bottle on Aidonia while performing, preventing him from doing a specific song (Deadline), which basically explain the struggles weh Aidonia guh through inna him career so far," Kurk said.
Kurk says they have reason to believe that the throwing incident was planned. "While heading to Spectrum, wi get a call, an a man a seh him overhear a conversation seh any how Aidonia do the song, dem a guh mek a man fling a bottle an lik him, cause dem have it seh him a dis dem inna di song, but is just speaking the truth."
However, Kurk says, "wi waan apologise to the University and the Spectrum committee an di whole works, di fans dem know seh Aidonia will never disrespect dem, but people out there still a try sabotage him career. Di artiste dem fi stop pay people fi fling bottle pon a nex artiste."
Sunshine's blues
DJ Sunshine was bottled at the Spectrum because the crowd did not like her music selection.
DJ Sunshine, real name Katrina Irons, also met a similar fate, while she was at the turntables. Although it was reported that patrons had booed Sunshine, she says, "I wasn't the one that was getting booed, it was the Beenie Man songs that they were booing an mi seh mi nah play partial."
Sunshine says, "I can't be partial in the business because I'm a radio presenter, so when I come to a show, if a artiste is booked for the show mi nah play out dem tune an' when dem fi perform dem nuh have nutt'n fi sing. I was quite surprised, I didn't know that was going on in town, but I'm not into the politics, I just come to play good music."
As a matter of fact, Sunshine says she will not be deterred in how she goes about selecting her songs in the future.
"I plan to continue to play good music. I cannot be biased in the business. Mi still have love for whoever, mi understand what was going on, but let us jus put the politics aside and deal wid di music," DJ Sunshine said.
