'Gun-gal' reforms

Fabian Ledgister, Staff Reporter

Once fingered as the most notorious 'gun-gal' in Jamaica, 19-year-old Sasha Payne, says that she is now living a quiet and mostly 'indoor' life, being eight months pregnant with her third child.

The 19-year-old mother of two says she has no need to involve herself in any 'gun business,' as the community where she lives, Havana in Arnett Gardens, is peaceful again.

"Yea, love how mi scheme a buil' back. All di hot girl dem a come out, all the shotta dem a come out, an a bear artiste a come true ... February 11 a di big day, community a buil' back," said Sasha referring to an upcoming community dance, 'Return Of Buil' Back'.

Payne made THE WEEKEND STAR's front cover on June 23, 2006 when the Kingston West police placed her on the division's most wanted list, in connection to what they described as, "numerous shooting incidents."

Police held Payne on ammunition charges in July, later slapping several counts of shooting with intent on her. After spending an extended time in custody, Payne was eventually freed of all charges, when witnesses failed to turn up.

She says she wishes the entire nation would adopt the peace that is now in her community.
