A student of the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, was stabbed in the neck by an unknown assailant on Wednesday night.
The student was spotted by campus security at about 7:50 p.m. when he ran to the Students' Union building, bleeding from the neck.
"He pointed towards the direction of his attacker, and we conducted an immediate and extensive search ... He could not give us a description as he was unable to speak due to his injury, so the attacker was not held," said a campus security personnel.
The student was immediately taken to the University Hospital, and admitted in serious condition.
Police say they were made aware of the matter by campus security, but they are awaiting statements on the matter.
"The boy's father visited us today (yesterday), and I hear he is in stable condition ... The father gave information, but we are waiting on the boy to come out of hospital to collect a statement from him," said an officer at the Mona Police Station.
