CHAMPION apprentice Carlton Malcolm has two live rides on tomorrow's 11-race card - NASATOL in the 1100-metre Millard Ziadie Memorial feature and CELEBRATION TIME in the 1200-metre sixth event.
Both runners feature in races included in the big Pick-9, which starts at the third race with a carryover of $8m.
NASATOL, who is on a four-timer after completing a hat-trick of wins on Boxing Day, returns among $350,000 claimers to match strides with the speedy duo of TIME OF MY LIFE, ROBIN'S BAY and old rival EMMVEEPEE.
TIME OF MY LIFE was caught stealing home by last week's upsetter NUMERO UNO at 1000 metres round on December 13. The six-year-old gelding was claimed out of the event by Desmond Shand and returns to the level after spending the month in jail.
A genuine speedster, TIME OF MY LIFE finished a clear second ahead of third-place ROBIN'S BAY that afternoon.
However, ROBIN'S BAY, who was slowly into stride, has trained really well for this event, beating DIGI 'N' JIGGY from the gate in 1:00.2.
Re-claimed by champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, ROBIN'S BAY returns with the blinkers fitted after exciting her connections in the equipment at exercise.
However, NASATOL should outclass both ROBIN'S BAY and TIME OF MY LIFE.
The grey gelding won comfortably despite bleeding on Boxing Day and should track his rivals into the lane before taking charge in the stretch run where his back class will make him hard to beat especially at 1100 metres, a distance at which the others are suspect.
Super-6
Malcolm, who holds a slim one-win lead over Javour Simpson in the apprentice standings with 24 wins, should also score aboard CELEBRATION TIME in the opening Super-6 race.
The five-year-old horse stumbled at the start last time out but recovered to be second at the half-mile and was still fifth a furlong out in a mile race won by CHING SING, on December 20.
Last Saturday's Super-6 paid out $800,000 plus to each of its five winners despite NUMERO UNO winning at 20-1 and SANKOFA striking at 17-1.
With the Super-6 guaranteed jackpot of $500,000 back in place on what appears to be a tough card, CELEBRATION TIME has only BREAKING NEWS to fear. Norman Palmer-trained BREAKING NEWS has been working well in the mornings but should find CELEBRATION TIME tough to beat on the round course.
Sure-shot bankers are WHITE WATER in the third among $160,000 claimers at 1000 metres straight, SUMMER WIND in the fifth at 1500 metres and BLOW WIND BLOW in the eighth at 1700 metres.
