FIX THIS - Potholes fixed, but traffic light out

This stop light close to the Denham Town Police Station on Spanish Town Road and Industrial Terrace has been out of service for over seven months.

AS A PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. Now we will have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.

Have you been on Spanish Town Road recently, or within the past seven months?

If you have, you should have come upon the broken traffic light at the Denham Town Police Station. The broken light which controls traffic at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and Industrial Terrace has, according to the Denham Town police, caused numerous accidents, including the damage of two service vehicles and of course traffic congestion. An officer at the station told THE STAR that despite pleas to the Ministry of Works nothing has been done to repair the light, although promises are made with each call. We hope there will finally be some action soon.

PROGRESS FINALLY

Speaking of action, we are now seeing some on North Street. Will our first problem, a broken sidewalk at the intersection of North Street and Pryce Lane be fixed? This problem was first featured in September of last year and we were told it would be repaired during the work for Cricket World Cup. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Hopefully next week there will be a good report.

In keeping with progress, we highlighted the community of Ziadie Gardens where the potholes have been fixed. However, the praise goes out to the efforts of the community who in a 'self help' gesture repaired the road on Sunday. Kudos to the Ziadie Gardens Citizens' Association and none to the relevant authorities who should have fixed it, the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation.
